1. Before the recording
Before we start, take a breath and set a comfortable pace. This is a professional conversation between peers, not a performance. Bring the points that matter, and we’ll guide the flow and handle the tech. If you want to pause, reframe, or follow a useful tangent, go for it — we’ll shape it in the edit. Clear examples and plain language land best with listeners.
Pick a quiet spot
Choose the quietest room you have.
Soft furnishings (rugs, curtains, couch) help reduce echo.
Avoid rooms with fans/aircon noise.
Use headphones
Wired headphones/earbuds are best — they stop audio feedback.
AirPods or similar are fine, but make sure they’re charged.
Please avoid using the laptop’s built-in mic and speakers.
Microphone tips
If you have a USB or podcast mic, brilliant — use that.
Otherwise, use the mic on your headphones and keep it close to your mouth (but not rubbing on clothes).
Try not to tap the desk or shuffle papers — the mic will pick it up.
Internet & browser
Use a strong, stable connection.
Stay close to your router.
Please join using Google Chrome — SquadCast works best there.
Close other apps/tabs that might use bandwidth.
2. Joining the session (SquadCast)
- We’ll send you a SquadCast link before your slot.
- Open it in Chrome on your laptop/desktop.
- Allow access to your mic/headphones.
- You don’t need to record anything at your end — SquadCast does it for us.
We’ll do a quick sound check and run through the key themes before we press record. It’s not live, so we can re-do anything.
3. During the conversation
- It’s audio-only — no camera required.
Speak naturally, like you’re talking to a colleague.
If you want to rephrase something, just pause and say it again — we’ll edit.
If a dog barks or a courier shows up, tell us and we’ll pause.
Timing: we usually book 60 minutes total (setup + recording) to produce an episode of around 20 - 30 minutes for listeners.
4. What we’ll send you
If you have a USB or podcast mic, brilliant — use that.

Try not to tap the desk or shuffle papers — the mic will pick it up.
